Live Drummer Plays Drum and Bass
Tuesday, 15 January 2008

Sawka a live drummer plays his song "Axis" live on electronic music station c89.5 in Seattle. This guy is awesome! As if playing drums like that isn't hard enough without having to control his sampler too.

I used to DJ drum and bass in london and I produced it. whats more i used to play the drums....this guy is in a league of his on on every level....putting the (exceptional) skill, soul and abilty of live percussion back into dance music. go dude. theres just one problem, drum and bass is soooooo 1994 and unless you're on a shit load of drugs its pretty boring.... nah just kidding... this guy quite literally rocks! give him a contract - right now.

i wonder..

i wonder if he's got his set worked out in advance, or if he's just freestyling along with the sampler. Pretty cool stuff, awesome frantic d&b too.

wow, so he has a sampler and is looping most of what he is doing...and...and...adding a little bit of percussion on top? And this is exciting why? Because drum machines don't already hold perfect rhythm? or because he plays on top of a drum machine? or...someone fill me in I'm dying to know about this little publicity stunt.

All those beats have to come from somewhere originally. To sit there & jam out instead of relying on a cd or a record to give you the beats takes skill. If you don't enjoy it, surf to another page - don't hate because you don't appreciate what he's doing, leave.

I've seen KJ Sawka live (last year at Nectar in Seattle) and even despite a computer crash (he was using Live to play samples) he was amazing. I wanna see him do some breakbeat stuff with a live band.

Just check this guys stuff & there's no doubt he got it tight, and the solo act deserves respect. but as for the first to get the virus? 6 years too late im proud to say. http://www.shapeshifter.co.nz/ my boys have been killing it live out of NZ for years. They just finish a nation tour late last year promoting their 3rd Album - Soulstice - sellout tour including 30 piece orchestra. Sync that shit.

this dude is definitely tight, but he should learn to manage the electronic controls without putting his stick in his armpit (to make his life easier)
