Leaked Fox Memo Shows How They Slant the News

A leaked memo obtained by Huffington Post shows how Fox News Channel goes out of the way to make sure any news they broadcast has a conservative bias.

Call for an investigation? Geez...the line between these news shows and entertainment is blurred forever. To bad nobody cares...

I like the part where he cares about the people that watch Fox News and "think" they're watching 'the truth'...

Slant?
written by jmac on November 19, 2006

So...that was really slanted how?
Saying the war on terror continues would be consistent with past reporting....to suddently say the war on terror is "over" or "winding down" would be the opposite of what they have reported, the truth, and what other (abc, nbc, cbs etc) networks will be reporting.
So they want statements from ppl overseas who might be heartend by the dems winning? That's different from the news agencies looking to see how foreigners reacted to bush winning a second term how?
Shouldn't they be asking about the democratic plan for iraq now that they control the house and senate? If the repubs had won again wouldn't we want them to ask THEM taht question? Yes? Thought so.
And they are going to continue to publicize a threat to the US from Hamas. Man, taht's slanted. The 3 major networks never report on possible threats to the US. Come on. That's the kind of stuff the public just eats up ratings wise. If they didn't like it they wouldn't put it on air. Fox doesn't control the public, they give them what they want to get the best ratings and make the most money.

That guy has no idea what he is talking about.

Also-If another memo comes out about "liberal" bias i'll do the same damn thing, these partisan idiots talking about media bias on either side always piss me off. People watch what they watch. This leads to people watching hyped news that is geared towards them. THAT is what creates any percieved or actual "slant". That people watch it gets the networks ratings. Not there fault, the peoples. If we stopped watching their networks and went to something else they would switch tactics. That's how competition works.

news is supposed to be unbiased. If you can't see how right wing bias Fox news is your either blind or in denile

Slanted
written by Frank Cioffi on November 19, 2006

So what if Fox slants right? The other networks slant left. That's where the "balance" part comes from. I'd rather hear the rightwing slant since it's usually correct anyway.

So what you're saying Slanted, is that you don't mind being lied to?
written by Cashcleaner on November 19, 2006

Because I don't know about you, but I sorta take offense when the media spins opinion as "the truth" and goes out of it's way to cultivate biased political journalism

Does this mean you're in favour of the "uninformed electorate" form of democracy?

Who's one-sided?
written by Islander on November 19, 2006

It's OK when every Liberal media pundit suddenly describes Edwards as having "Gravitas". But let Fox news remind us of terrorism and the fact that Hamas called for a holy was against America the day after election 2006, that most media chose to ignore, and it's slanting the news.

How many times have we seen left wing liberals like Katie Couric whining out their views rather than reporting the facts. Remember when she actually broke out in tears when Kerry lost?

Thank God Fox is there to give another side of the news! If O'Reilly has an opinion he says it and doesn't try to pass it off as anything else.

BTW, if they are so bad why are they getting higher rating than all others?

Something to think about.
written by Casatalias on November 19, 2006

So... we are hearing a report from Keith Olbermann about how Fox News is biased, but yet he uses information from the Huffington Post and interviews the director of Out Foxed (both sources clearly clearly come from the left.) It kills me that he states shortly into his broadcast "...False charge of an intentional liberal bias," and then prompty cuts to the huffington post and Mr. Greenwald for clarification. Anybody else seeing the hypocrisy here???

Really what we are seeing here is Keith Olbermann and MSNBC nipping at the heels of a highly successfull Fox news. The rest is politics as usual.

He's right on point!!!

Unfortunately, Fox News is not the only organization guilty of such atrocities.

This guy and his little paid film maker are both idiots.

If you think the Election was won by reasons other than dumb Americans thinking there can be a "new course" in Iraq, you're wrong. There is no other course there. That place is a terrorist infested breeding ground. So what if fox is looking for reactions to Dems winning? Its because they, like every other American should, know that Dems are the biggest sissies in the world. Democrats raise our taxes, destroy our military, and then turn around and make our Government into a bureaucracy that does nothing more than waste the monies its people gave it. The memo did not say report this. It said look for statements on it. Just as if the Republicans had won they'd look for statements on that. Screw MSN and its liberal views. Fox Rules!

FOX News watchers are idiots.
written by ZOMG on November 19, 2006

The only course left to take in Iraq is to leave it. And it wasn't terrorist infested until Bush started his crusade.

Republicans raise taxes to...remember "read my lips...no new taxes..." Remember that?

oh, my gawd, like, no way! seriously?

Well, We're used to Murdock over here...UK
written by Garry Kidwell on November 20, 2006

News should be unbiased. Like the man said. It's not about ratings and what you want to hear: The truth often isn't what you want to here- but it lets you make your own decisions. It IS what democracy NEEDS. Else it would be "Who has the best advertising" who would win your elections because facts would become just entertainment. Murdock owns some of our newspapers and we've become used to his slants. That's probably why we were ok with going into an ileagal war. Just like you - we can be duped.

The difference between slanting the news and reporting it.
written by Ryan on November 20, 2006

to respond to jmac, the difference is that the reporters are getting directives of what the message is and what to focus on. If they want to report on the war continuing, that's fine, but each reporter should be able to report on the news that they find and be allowed to express thier own opinion.

It's truly sad that American's idea of 'balanced news' is having one heavily riht wing and another heavily left wing news channel. That's not balanced, that's only driving a further stake in the polarization of America. If you want to see real balanced news, read the economist, where often times you'll see two opposing views of the same topic.

This is NOT new news, I was forced to watch a video on Faux News and their slanted reporting, even brought in people whos lifes had been ruined by reporting facts on Faux News just because they reported stories that were inconvient for Faux News. These people cannot even find jobs in the media industry now, sad.

It is too bad that there wasn't a NEWS organization like FOX around in the late 1930's to "scare the hell" out of the timid French and British politicians about the growing threat posed by the Nazis so they could have stopped them before the world was engulfed in world war. The Radical Islamic threat we face to day could prove to be an even greater threat to our continuing existence than the Nazis. also, if you think that they will simply leave us alone, think again, you can only blame this country for so many ills in the world, but these Islamic Radicals are attacking people in other countries all over the world that have nothing to do with the US(look at their attacks in India, Spain,Italy, Lebanon,Bali,Russia and many African countries where they kill and behead people just for being an "infidel"(non-muslim).They have been doing this type of activity long before George W. Bush's father was even president. It's time to quite blaming this great country and realize this current world situation is driven by the Islamic Radicals desire to establish there own version of Hitler's "Thousand Year Reich" with a "Thousand Year Islamic Theocracy". If some of you people think your 'civil rights' are abridged under are current system, wait till you see how fast you will literally lose your head let alone your 'civil rights' under their system!!

Fox news has brainwashed you. Dont you get it? You worry about attacks and Jihads and Hamas and beheading's and 1000 year wars and Radical Islamists because FOX has brainwashed you to be AFRAID of these things. Yes, they exist to a degree, but they have been exaggerated to control you through fear. Wake up!

Whoever has the most to profit from war is the one to be least trusted. And FOX is toting the Bush Administrations line. THEREFORE they have more to gain by getting ratings and saying whatever they can to get people to tune in and become followers of "Stay the Course". You will all reap the errors of the Bush presidency and then you will finally wake up and see for your self the wrong doings they have done to this great country...

What an increadibly rediculous in ill informed statement. Where do you even start with someone who can actually say that FOX News is somehow trumping up and/or profiting from what the radical islamists are doing accross the world.

From the days of the Revolution right through WWII and now the conflict in the Middle East about 1/3 of the people just don't get the need to get involved, 1/3 of the people are opposed to doing anything unless their very own door is being broken down, and 1/3 of the people do get it, do care, and are willing to do what needs to be done.

It's just very sad to read comments like the one above. You just have to wonder if there is any greay matter between the ears at all. Plus it really distresses me to know that someone who thinks like this may be breeding...

IS IT NOT OBVIOUS???
written by jasmin on March 24, 2007

Hahaha classic... Even though its been distinctly clear since the before the 04 elections- there is several shows that create an artificial outlook for americans with little or no knowledge about whats really going on in iraq...

bush killing our loved ones in order to steal oil....

and yes i said it, I believe that bush is mearly a greedy cold-hearted MURDERER!!!

and anyone who is still on his side is either evil or completely stupid

written by comron on March 29, 2007

the mental midgets that have been so successfully indoctrinated into the culture of fear that fox perpetuates with it's "news" are the real threat to our country. They are the people who have labeled intelligent citizens who want actual facts liberals. these simpletons us fact oriented news as examples of the left wing bias. well, this just in folks....asking what the current president is going to do about the war is a legitimate question. Fox is counting on your ignorance and seemingly low IQ to compensate for the context free "news" that they provide. who do you propose MSNBC interviews for a story about the corruption surfacing at Fox, bill fucking O. no, how about the man who spent about a year investigating it, but of course that dumb liberal would be presenting the facts that question your ignorant assumptions....better avoid that. please, if you see Fox as a asset to this country stop what you are doing and immediately end your life.

Do we really need a memo?
