the reason it dont work it beacuse your not looking good enough
the reason it dont work it beacuse if you watch when he touches the ive in the video
he has a little bit of sodium acetate on his finger so the reaction mixes together to freeze but not only freeze its hot so be careful and sodium acetated is a chemical the you can only order online go to google and type in buying sodium acetate it will show you sodium acetate is not that exspensive so its easy just look
closer

written by tracy on March 19, 2008

My son and I have tried and tried, with no luck to make hot ice. He has his project due in just a few days with not a working experiment. Can you please let us know exactly step by step how to make this, amount of water, sodium acetate etc. We need help. We have tried so many ways with no luck.

Instructions to make instant hot ice
written by tracy on April 7, 2008

To make instant hot ice you will need: sodium acetate, a water pan, and a glass or tray. First, you have to pour 2 or more spoonfuls of sodium acetate in near boiling water(stir constantly). When the soduim acetate has completely dissolved in the water, pour the chemical into a glass and store it in the fridge until it has cooled. Now, all you have to do is pour the chemical( which should look like water)into a tray and touch.... WALA INSTANT ICE

Answer
written by Vasyl on December 11, 2008

I know that it not going to work very easy. I worked on it for my science fair project. Who want try to make it 1)Try with 140g of sodium acetate per 100ml (per temperature 100 degrees Celcius) of water or find solubility curve for sodium acetate; 2)Use all new stuff (not broken, not scretched); 3)Solution should not touch any dirt or dust.

I have the perfect solution
written by ihavealltheanswers on June 16, 2009

Okay, well, ive been reading all of you guys's comments and i have an answer. first of all, don't buy sodium acetate. make it at home. this is very easy, all you need is vinegar, and baking soda. pour however much baking soda into a container, and then constantly add vinegar and mix it until it stops fizzing. then you need to boil about 90% of the water down, and look for a thin layer of crust. once you see this, immediatly take it off heating and pour a tiny bit of water into it, then start stiring, to re-dissolve it. then, cover it, stick it in the freezer (cools of quicker) for about 15-20 minutes. its ready! now, all you have to do i drop a sodium acetate crystal into it, this can be achived by dipping your finger in the solution, sodium acetate will begin to form on your finger. then drop it in, or touch it. THERE YA GO PPL! (please excuse my spelling and grammar, i typed this really fast, and i'm obviously not the best typer.....)

btw
written by ihavealltheanswers on June 16, 2009

Oh, and btw, since this is an exothermic reaction, try using something else to get the sodium acetate crystal, like a toothpick, or a spoon. Because once it starts drying and forming onto your finger, it BURNS!

what is your purpos for doing this Experiment??

written by ML on February 1, 2010

Okay- this is a super - saturated solution. THat means you dump as much sodium acetate in as the solution will dissolve at a high temperature (almost boiling water). When you cool it down, there is more salt in the water than what will normally dissolve at the cooler temperature.
To get it to form the crystals is very easy (it is actually hard to keep it from happening). Touch it with one small crystal! Also, it you have dried crystals on the container, it will ppt as you pour. It is favorable to form the crysatl so energy is given off in the form of heat- called exothermic. about 135 degrees.
