Anatomy of a One Punch Knockout
Thursday, 24 May 2007

This National Geographic video confirms the legend of the one punch knockout and shows the anatomy of what happens to the body when you are punched that hard. The toughest punch belongs to boxing, not martial arts.

Kinetic energy

I dont know about the boxer having a harder punch than the martial artist,of course it comes down to the fighter, his size strength and most importantly his technique.
A small guy with flawless technique will knock someone out just as easily as a big guy. I have seen it many times.

Size does matter

One of the first things you learn in martial arts is how to punch correctly. And my Sensei told us to start the punch from the back foot just like in the video. However all the power and strength in the world is useless without targeting your opponent correctly. The right place to hit is as important as the strike itself, which they did not mention. My good friend fought a larger boxer at an open style kumatie and my friend, about 70 kilo,s hit the larger heaver boxer, (about a hundred kilo) with a spinning backfist strike to the right place at the right time. Knock out. Technique.

Spinning backfist

Every boxer is wide open to the spinning backfist. I don't know why, but I think it is the aggressive style. They try to jump on you when you start the turn. I've always been able to hit boxers with it. In boxing it's not a legal move however so I suppose thats why they don't train against it.

yes. it must always be the "spinning backfist".

You all are crazy.

This is talking about the IDEAL one hit punch. You all are talking about actual mixed fighting, and a one hit knockout wouldn't work if (for example) somebody could dodge it. This video is taken using IDEAL conditions, with time to prepare, and with pure kinetic force taken into account as the main importance in the punch. You are talking about something completely different. Kinetic force in a punch is a direct correlation to muscle strength, speed, and mass. It's basic physics.

this clip is accurate. you will all have to watch the video in full to take it all in context... which covers not only boxing, but other martial art styles as well. boxers have a devastating punch (since that is strictly what they train for), while a thai kick boxer's knee strike can do massive amounts of internal damage as well. each style has its advantages..

Martial arts can do tissue damage

many styles of martial arts teach to release all of the energy on a punch. with this style, it is possible to damage internally without such a hard punch, and cause more internal damage than external, which can not be accuratle measured on a dummy

i have to agree no matter the style or size of the person (sometimes even the skill) if a punch is landed in the right place at the right time with the right amount of energy u could knock Tyson out in one hit i have seen extremely small people take out much larger people many times (check out bodog fights for reference )

(i have seen the whole episode it says near the beginning "the one punch knock out is rare and is only seen under perfect conditions")

If you want to experience a one punch knockout ask the boxers like manny pacquiao, or even ask him to give example towards you... it could be a good experience!!! LOL!!!!
